A Savoury Soul: Amelia Williams // Nurture and Shine

This is seriously my favorite time of week because I get to shine light on some of the most incredible wellness warriors out there. They may be new or someone you already follow but regardless, they are all truly inspiring. This gal, is certainly no different.

Like me, Amelia from Nurture and Shine is currently enrolled at The Institute for Integrative Nutrition and is already a bright and shiny, holistic influence amongst many.

She is one of the most positive people I've come by and she has quite the addictive personality. She's just so sweet and honest and down right lovely.

Nurture and Shine

Tell me about your journey to health and wellness. Has it always been something you’ve been passionate about?

In my late teens/early 20s, I used to think the idea of a good meal was some chip and dip with the girls before a night out drinking numerous glasses of wine and finishing it off with a Big Mac meal on the way home! So healthy living wasn’t really on my radar.

I suffered from bulimia for many years, and while I knew I couldn’t maintain this lifestyle and wanted to change, it took me a long time to actually make those changes. There was a lot of fear and old stories holding me back.

It was since becoming a Mother than I really took huge steps to change my health and well-being, and in turn have found my true passion. As a parent, I worry about the growing obesity rate in the world. I want my children to grow up in a healthy and happy world, so the best thing I believe I can do for them is to be an example of good health. But not only that, I want to look after my body as best as I can be so that I can be around for a long time. I want to be that great grandmother sitting at my great grandchild’s wedding!

Since delving head first into the world of health and wellness – I’ve found something that truly lights my fire.

You are enrolled at The Institute of Integrative Nutrition, what did you love about their program and why health coaching?

Can I say everything? I’m only a couple of months in, but it’s already the best decision I’ve ever made. As soon as I read through the pre-course materials I knew it was the course for me. At IIN, they believe that we need to tailor our lifestyle to us as an individual, rather than following the crowd and I couldn’t agree more with this – as they say “one person’s food is another person’s poison”. For me, being healthy is about listening to your body and knowing what it needs.

Being a health coach seemed like a natural step for me. I wanted to draw on my own experiences to then help other’s take charge of their own health. I believe that if someone like me, who was completely lacking in confidence, incredibly overweight, and full of fear, can overhaul their life – anyone can. And although my clients may learn something from me, I believe I will learn so much more from them.

Is there a specific area/niche you want to dial into?

Working with other amazing women really brings me joy. I love seeing other women succeed. Far too often we compete with each other, when we should be standing side by side as our biggest supporters.

I love working with fellow Mums too - they are incredible and I want them to know that it’s possible to spend a bit of time on yourself without feeling that “mummy guilt”.

I want women to fall in love with themselves again. I truly believe we all deserve to love the people that we are.

What is your go to healthy meal? Snack?

I am a huge fan of eggs – I eat eggs at least every second day. And if it’s been a busy day and I’m feeling a bit uninspired to make dinner – we will often have a vegetable packed omelette for dinner. Easy, quick , healthy and tasty!

Snack wise – at the moment I’m obsessed with black sesame crackers with homemade avocado dip.

What is one thing that people would be totally surprised to know about you? I am a little bit obsessed with “The Real Housewives” franchise!

What are your top 3 non-negotiables?

Lots of water Fresh produce At least 5 minutes each day of quiet time to myself.

In your own words, what is a Savoury Soul to you?

For me, a Savoury Soul is someone who makes the most of what they have in life and knows exactly how to make their body work at its full potential. They know what works for them. They are one of those infectious types of people that you just want to be around and feed off their energy.
