Pasta typically lacks vitamins and nutrients, and could be the culprit behind your expanding waistline.

If you're like most, boxed pasta is an “easy” dinner idea. But did you realize that studies have revealed that wheat (along with cereal grains, maize, barley, and dairy products), contain opioid substances called exorphins. Exorphins produce narcotic-like and mood-altering affects and can be addictive.

Knowing this, it’s no wonder that we want to *stuff* our faces with endless bowls of pasta! However, many of us already know that pasta isn’t all that healthy for us, including the following reasons:

• Wheat Pasta Causes Spikes In Our Blood Sugar & Insulin Levels ← Carbohydrates from refined grains get broken down into glucose so fast that there’s little difference between eating 10g of sugar or eating 10g of refined grains. ← ← But here’s the deal: to counteract the excess glucose in the blood, your pancreas secretes large amounts of insulin. Too much insulin, however, and those cells become insulin resistant — to say this is a bad thing is an understatement. High insulin levels and insulin resistance are associated with obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, dementia, Alzheimer’s, and several cancers. ← • Wheat Pasta Contains a Pesky Little Protein Called Gluten ← A large percentage of people are allergic to gluten, and even those who aren’t have difficulty digesting it. For many of us, our genes respond to gluten as a foreign substance.

Want to know a secret of mine?... I admit to having a weakness for comforting pasta. I know that eating wheat pasta is not healthy for my body, but it’s still tempting.

Have you ever noticed about yourself that the minute you tell yourself that you “can’t” have pasta (or whatever naughty food you love), you then can’t stop thinking about eating it?! It’s torture, right?!

Well, I don’t want to leave you in a state of torment thinking about how you can’t have pasta because it’s not as healthy as you thought.

I have a healthy version of pasta to share with you that you can eat endlessly without guilt. In fact, eating this version of pasta will likely help you to shed a few pounds!

How to Eat (Veggie) Pasta & Lose Weight One of the reasons that I love eating pasta is that it is a staple recipe that is so versatile. These days when I eat pasta, I no longer use the packaged stuff that comes from boxes.

Instead, I use whole natural veggies! Here’s how you can too...

Pad Thai/ Linguine Pasta: You likely already have a veggie peeler in your set of kitchen tools. Go dig it out of that drawer where all your utensils get shoved. After you peel off the outer skin on your veggie of choice (think zucchini, carrots, etc) continue to peel into thin ribbons and strips. Serve with your favorite sauce. I’m dreaming of Alfredo or Curry! Oh boy, are you getting hungry yet?

Spaghetti Pasta: You can use many different types of veggies to make your spaghetti noodles simply by using a spiralizer or hand held mandolin slicer. If you don’t yet know what a spiralizer is you’re missing out! Here is the one that I use and recommend; the Joyce Chen (which is great for angel hair spaghetti). Veggies you can use include zucchini, yellow squash, beets, sweet potato, etc. For a quick dinner idea, make a red marina sauce to top over your veggie spaghetti.

Can I Really Lose Weight Eating Endless Pasta?

Yes, this is the kind of pasta that you can fill your plate with and eat guilt free! There are very little calories in veggies like Cucumber, Yellow Squash, or Zucchini, my favorite pasta base.

I challenge you to try this switch from cooked wheat pasta to raw veggie pasta. I have no doubt that you too will see the difference in how you feel and how your waist will shrink.

Why it works?

Eating large bowls of veggie pasta means getting LOTS of fiber (which is necessary to eliminating excess weight stored in our colon). Plus, by eating more plates of veggie pasta you're getting more nutrients that leave you feeling fuller longer because you’re getting the vitamins and minerals that your body needs.

Veggie pasta is super easy for your body to digest, which converts into more energy for you! Wheat pasta, as you know leaves you feeling lethargic and weighted down.
